Assembly and Disassembly
Using the right assembly methods is vital if machines are to perform well over a long period of time. Correct installation does not only mean good product quality, but often also reduces energy consumption. SKF has many assembly products, each with specific technical and economic advantages for different foundations, applications and requirements.
Installing and removing bearings
Assembly is one of the critical stages of the bearing’s life cycle. If the bearing is not installed correctly using the correct methods and tools, its service life will be shortened. About 16% of all premature bearing failures are due to improper fitting or use of incorrect mounting techniques.
At some point the bearing will reach the end of its useful life and will need to be replaced. Although it cannot be reused, it is extremely important to disassemble the bearing correctly so that the service life of the replacement bearing is not compromised. First, the use of appropriate disassembly methods and tools can help prevent damage to other machine components, such as shafts and bearings, which are often reused. Second, incorrect disassembly techniques can be dangerous to the operator.
